Use a dish towel. This method not only gives your wine extra protection from breaking, it's also a two-in-one gift. Purchase a colorful or holiday-themed dish towel. Place the bottle on its side so the top of the neck meets the top of the towel. Fold the extra material over the bottom of the bottle and, with your fist, bunch it up at the top. Tie it together at the neck of the bottle with a ribbon or piece of string.

Recycle old newspapers. Pick out a few newspaper pages. Use the cartoon section if you want something colorful. Wrap two sheets of newspaper around the bottle. Leave several extra inches at the top. Tie the neck of the bottle with ribbon or string. Cut the paper you left at the top into thin strips. Run the blade of a pair of scissors along the paper to curl the strips.

Buy a wine bag or box. If you've visited a specialty wine store, you've probably noticed the gift bags and boxes for sale. To personalize a bag, use colorful tissue paper to wrap the bottle and let the extra paper stick out of the top of the bag. Many of these boxes and bags come with a gift card attached.
