How to Calculate Calories Burned Per Hour
Tracking calories burned is common when you are trying to lose weight. It may also be necessary on a high-level fitness program to ensure enough calories are consumed to maintain the activity levels. It is not an exact science because each individual burns a different number of calories per hour depending on the person's weight and metabolism and the type of exercise performed. However, a reasonable calculation can be made taking these factors into consideration.
Things You'll Need

1
Weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you have eaten. Wear light clothing. Use this as your base weight for making your calculations.
-
2
Decide what exercise you are going to be doing for the next hour. You may be combining different routines such as a half-hour of walking and a half-hour of gardening. Time each form of exercise with the stopwatch.

Also, measure how far you have walked, cycled or run within your hour and calculate your speed per hour. Using a pedometer gives a good indication of distance.

4
Using an activity chart, calculate the calories burnt for each particular exercise. If your exact weight is not shown re-evaluate the amount based on your measurements.

Tips & Warnings
Use a computer program to check whether your math was correct. Input your activity and length of time, and the computer will calculate the approximate calories used.
