Toggle Dual Function Keys on an HP Laptop

The dual function keys on an HP laptop computer are located at the very top of the keyboard. Each of these keys performs two different functions, many of which relates to either the media capabilities of your laptop or the settings on your computer (depending on which key you choose). Toggling between the functions on these dual functions keys can be done with the help of a specially designed key for this purpose elsewhere on the keyboard, called the "Function" key.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the labels on the dual function keys to see a symbol for each of the functions that key performs. The label on the top of the key is the function that the key performs without using the "Function" key. The label on the bottom of the key is the secondary function that you can only toggle to by using the "Function" key.

    • 2

Press and hold the "Function" key in the lower-left corner of your HP laptop keyboard. This key has the "FN" label on it.

    • 3

Tap the function key you want to use to toggle from its first function to its secondary function. Because you are holding down the "Function" key, the secondary function will be performed.
