How to Clear the Ink Line on a Brother MFC420CN
Clean and precise print quality improves the appearance of documents created with any computer printer. Excess ink on the print head can cause unwanted lines to appear across lines of text on the printed page. Using a cleaning procedure to improve the condition of the Brother MFC-420CN print head will improve the performance of the printer and raise the print quality. Touch the "Ink" button on the display panel of the printer.

Use the up or down arrows to change the selection until you reach the "Cleaning" option.

Touch the "Menu/Set" button.

Use the up or down arrows to display the "Black," "Color" or "All" choices and select the type of cleaning you prefer.

Touch the "Menu/Set" button. When the printer completes the cleaning process, it will return to standby mode.

Tips & Warnings
If the cleaning procedure does not resolve the problem, repeat it up to five times. If the problem still persists after five cleanings, contact Brother customer service at 800-284-4329.
According to Brother International, you should not touch the print head, as it may cause permanent damage and could void the warranty.
The cleaning procedure uses ink and will waste ink if performed when it is not needed.
