How to Block an Internal IP Address

When you are connected to a network, all devices on that network are assigned internal Internet Protocol (IP) addresses in the network from the router they are connected to. If for some reason you need to block an Internal IP address from a device on your network, you can do so by modifying the hosts file on your computer to redirect any communication to or from that IP address back into your computer itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on "Start" and then type "notepad" in the search bar.

    • 2

Right-click "Notepad" that appears and click "Run as administrator" then "Yes."

    • 3

Click "File" and "Open," and navigate to "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" and click "hosts" then "Open."

    • 4

Add "127.0.0.1 123.123.123.123" (where "123.123.123.123" is the IP you want to block) to the bottom line of the hosts file and then save the file to block that IP address.
