How to Remove Programs in Linux

Linux, an alternative operating system to Windows, is far less user-friendly to new users. Even something as simple as uninstalling a program must be done through a command-line prompt, similar to the old MS-DOS operating system. To uninstall software, you must access the terminal and use the command line to delete the unneeded programs.

Instructions

    • 1

Close all open programs and windows before beginning your uninstalls.

    • 2

Open your terminal. Select "Accessories." Choose "Administration." Choose "Terminal."

    • 3

Type the following into the command line:

      rpm -e program

Replace the word "program" in the example with the name of the program you wish to uninstall.

    • 4

Type "Y" for any prompts that appear.
