My Dell Latitude D505 Won't Standby

Dell Latitudes have been equipped with the ability to go into standby mode so that your battery and power are not being consumed when they are not being used. If you find that your Dell Latitude is not hibernating like it should be when it is sitting for an extended amount of time, you need to configure it to do so. Luckily, Windows makes the process of telling your computer when to go into standby mode rather simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click on the background image on your desktop, then select "Personalization."

    • 2

Click on "Screen Saver," then choose "Change Power Settings" from that screen. This is where you go to make changes to the settings for power usage within your computer.

    • 3

Select "Change When The Computer Sleeps" from the next screen. This is where you tell Windows how long the display and full power should be active after non-use.

    • 4

Go to the "Put The Computer To Sleep" section and change the times for both the "On Battery" and "Plugged In" from "Never" to your desired amount of time. This will tell your computer to go into standby mode at the determined amount of time that it is not being used.

    • 5

Click "Save Changes" once you are satisfied with the settings that you have made.
