How to Set the Shortcuts on an HP Keyboard

Program the shortcut keys located at the top of your HP keyboard.

Many HP desktop and laptop computers have shortcut keys at the top of the keyboard. These keys enable you to quickly perform functions by pressing one key, instead of making multiple keystrokes or mouse clicks. The computer ships with each key already programmed to perform a specific function, but you can unlock the keys and change the settings to suit your own habits and needs. By changing the shortcut keys on the keyboard, you can launch applications you use constantly, speeding up the time it takes you to accomplish tasks on the computer.

Instructions

1. Click on the computer's "Start" or Windows button and click on "Control Panel." Select "Other Hardware" and click on "Quick Launch Buttons."

2. Select the tab labeled "Advanced" and click on the box next to "Allow Users to Modify Button Assignments" so a check mark appears.

3. Click on "Ok" to save your settings and close the window. Click on "Quick Launch Buttons" again and click on the new "Settings" tab.

4. Select the function you want each button to perform from the drop-down menus. Click on "Ok" once you have made your selections.
