How to Use a Sony Remote Control With a Satellite Receiver
One of the advantages of many Sony TVs is that the remote can also be used as a universal remote to control your other devices, such as your satellite receiver. By programming your Sony remote to run your satellite receiver, you can eliminate one remote and keep your living room less cluttered. The process is straightforward and takes only minutes. Keep in mind, not all Sony TVs include universal remotes, so refer to the documentation that came with your TV to verify. If in doubt, simply look at your remote. If there is a "SAT/Cable" button on it, the remote can be programmed.

1
Locate the three-digit device code for your satellite receiver. Look on the back of your receiver to see the manufacturer and model number. Next, open the manual that came with your TV and remote to find the list of three-digit device codes. If you no longer have your manual, refer to the Resources for a link to Sony's website, where you can look up your manual and get the device codes.
-
2
Press and hold the "SAT/Cable" button on your remote. At the same time press the "SETUP" button. The "SAT/Cable" button will flash.
-
-
3
Input the three-digit device code. If more than one code is listed in your manual, start with the first code.
-
4
Press the "ENT" button and wait for the "SAT/Cable" button to flash twice. If the button flashes five times you entered the code incorrectly. Repeat the previous steps and re-enter the code.
-
5
Point your remote at your satellite receiver and press the power button. If the receiver shuts off, the code works. If it doesn't, repeat the previous steps, but enter the next code in the list.
-
6
Press the "SAT/Cable" button once the correct code has been entered to use your remote to control your receiver.
