Before the rise of the World Wide Web, if you wanted to look up the address and telephone number of a business, you had to order a phone book for the city where the business was located and then wait for it to be delivered. This was a slow and costly way to obtain information. Thanks to the ubiquitous Web browser, which is installed on nearly every desktop computer and laptop, looking up this information can now be done in just a minute or two using your favorite search engine.

Open any Web browser such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome or Safari.

Navigate to your favorite search engine such as Google, Bing or Yahoo!

Type in the name of the business and the postal code, if you know it. Otherwise, simply type the name of the business along with the city and state where the firm is located. Press "Enter" and the search engine will return a list of matching businesses. Navigate to the company's website and click on the "Contact Us" or "About Us" tab to obtain the organization's address and telephone number.

If your search produces a large number of results, you can narrow the search by enclosing the company name in double quotation marks. For example, if you simply search for ABC Plumbing Supply, your search results may include millions of hits for every page containing "ABC" or "Plumbing" or "Supply." If you instead type "ABC Plumbing Supply" enclosed in quote marks, only exact matches will be displayed and it will be much easier to find the exact company you are looking for.
