How to Build Corn Hole Units

Corn hole is an outdoor game that involves throwing beanbags at wooden targets. Due to the small standard size of the targets, the gaming pieces are easy to transport, making it a fairly mobile activity. Since the units are made from wood, a corn hole target set is also fairly simple to make. In order to make corn hole units that meet the standard size, the most important part is getting the proper measurements. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Create the face, or top side, of each target from plywood pieces measuring 2 feet by 4 feet. Measure across one of the two-foot edges of the board and mark the board at 1 foot to mark the middle, and then measure down from the middle mark 6 inches. Measure in from each side of the board 9 inches in roughly the same area and mark the board. Draw a hole using the compass, so that the top of the hole hits the mark you created when you measured down and the sides of the hole hit the marks you created when you measured in from the sides. Cut the hole out with a saw.

    • 2

Make two separate rectangles using the 4-foot 2x4s and the 21-inch 2x4s. The 4-foot boards should be across from each other in each rectangle, and the 21-inch boards should be across from each other in each rectangle. Once you create the rectangles, use 4-inch nails to secure them.

    • 3

Place the target faces that you made on top of each frame. Nail the faces of the targets into place on the frame, using a nail every 3 to 4 inches.

    • 4

Nail two 12-inch 2x4s on the upper corners, the corners nearest the hole, of each target so that the top of the 2x4s are even with the face of the target. Once the 2x4s are attached, set the targets on the ground with the holes facing up, and measure up from the ground at the high end of the target where the hole is located. The height should measure slightly higher than 12 inches due to the angle of the legs.

    • 5

Sand the bottom of the 12-inch 2x4s at an angle so that they sit more evenly on the ground, and the target gets slightly shorter at the highest point. Continue sanding until the highest point of the target is 12 inches from the ground.

Tips & Warnings

  • Once you finish creating the basic units for your corn hole set, use paint to customize the targets.
