Dreamweaver's repeating background option can create an aesthetically pleasing website.

Dreamweaver is an Adobe web design tool that uses both hand coding and "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) methods. Even if the user has little to no knowledge in hand coding, he can still create a website. There are many creative options offered in Dreamweaver that will add an attractive visual effect to any site. One of these is the repeating background.

Instructions

  1. Using Dreamweaver to Create a Repeating Background

    • 1

Start Dreamweaver. Double click the icon for the program. Allow the program to fully load.

    • 2

In the menu, under "Create New" select the HTML option. This will open a blank page.

    • 3

At the bottom of the screen, click "Page Properties" to bring up a pop-up menu.

    • 4

In the background image section, click "Browse" to choose an image that you would like to repeat in the background. This should be a smaller, .jpeg image that, when shown repetitively, will create an attractive pattern. To select the image, click the image name and then click "OK". This will bring you back to the page properties menu. You will see your selected image name in the background image section.

    • 5

Select "Repeat" from the drop-down menu.

    • 6

To preview the repeating image on your blank page, select "Apply".

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose an image that will not distract from the actual content on the website. The image should be simple and small to medium in size to create a pattern. Consider reducing the opacity of the image to make it subtle.

  • Use a low resolution image that is around 72 dpi. Anything that is too large can slow the load time of the website. However, an image that is too small can appear pixelated.
