How to Sync Outlook With iGoogle

Microsoft Outlook is a popular e-mail and contact management program that allows users to track events on a calendar. Google Calendar is a competing program that runs entirely online. Events on the Google Calendar are commonly viewed from iGoogle, a customizable user dashboard. In order to synchronize events between Outlook and Google, an add-on software utility is needed.

Instructions

    • 1

Check that a supported version of Microsoft Outlook is installed on the computer. Google can sync calendars with versions 2003, 2007, and 2010 of Outlook running on either Windows Vista or XP. From Outlook, click the "Help" menu and then "About" in order to view the current version.

    • 2

Save the Google Calender Sync utility to the computer. A download link is available in the Resource section. Click the link marked "GoogleCalendarSync_Installer.exe." Click "Save" on the dialog box, choose a location for the file on the computer, and click "Okay." Once saved, the file will run automatically. Select "I Agree" after reviewing the software Terms of Service, and then click "Install."

    • 3

Fill out the Google Calendar account information on the screen that appears after the "Install" button is pressed. Include Google account details such as the log-in and password, which are used to access the online calendar. Choose the desired synchronizing options. "Two Way" allows both calendars to update each other, which "One Way" allows only one of the calendars to make updates. When ready, click "Save."

Click "Sync" from the Windows tray calendar icon to manually sync the calendar between Outlook and Google. Click "Options" from this same icon to modify the synchronization settings. Events will now appear on both calendars.
