Washing snowboard pants poses a constant problem for snowboarders. Many worry that washing their snowboard pants will remove the crucial waterproof layer, which is not the case. Dirt, on the other hand, can render waterproofing layers almost useless. Properly washing snowboard pants, which pick up a lot of dirt and sweat over a winter season, will prolong their life. Choose a detergent specifically for use on waterproof clothing. Your snowboard clothing supplier should be able to suggest the most appropriate one. Ordinary detergent might strip away the waterproof coating.

Put your snowboard pants in the washing machine. Be careful not to wash regular clothing in the special detergent. If washing other waterproof garments at the same time, don't overload the washer.

Use the special detergent in the same way you would use regular detergent, following the product's instructions. Depending on the options on your washing machine, select as low a temperature as possible, most likely the "gentle" or "delicate" setting.

Remove your snowboard pants when the wash cycle is finished and line dry them. Tumble drying could damage the waterproof coating.

If you are concerned that the waterproof layer has worn away, waterproofing sprays are available at ski and snowboard equipment stores.
