My Sony CD Player Won't Work

My Sony CD Player Won't Work thumbnail
CD players remain in widespread use even as MP3 becomes the dominant music format.

Sony has a select line of CD players, and although much music is now in MP3 format, CD players are still in widespread use. If your Sony CD player isn't working, the problem may be with the type of CD you're using. In any case, you'll need to troubleshoot the situation.

Instructions

    • 1

Change the batteries in the CD player. If the batteries are beginning to fail, the player is not going to function correctly.

    • 2

Remove any MiniDisc CD you have inserted in the player. Many Sony CD players do not support this format.

    • 3

Check the headphone connection. Make sure the headphone jack is pushed completely into the headphone port on the side of the CD player.

    • 4

Avoid using a CD that is a dual-disc (has information written on both sides of the CD). The CD player is not able to read the data burned onto the disc and will simply give you an error message when you're attempting to play the audio.

    • 5

Clean off the bottom of the CD if only some tracks will play. Dust and debris stuck to the CD can cause it to skip.
