Install a GPS device into a car so that you can track it anywhere.

The GPS or Global Positioning System is a technology used to determine the specific location of a person or an object anywhere on Earth. It does this by using 24 orbiting satellites that can see every position on the planet at any given moment. So if you need to track a car, then using a simple GPS is the easiest and most efficient way to do it. You can use a portable device and it doesn't require any technical knowledge to get set up.

Get a tracking system that suits your needs. Three that you can use are the Spy Matrix Pro, the Nano and the WorldTracker. These are portable hand-held devices that do not require any installation. You simply place them within the car and you can track it anywhere it goes. You can find these devices at online spy stores (See Resources.) As of 2010, these stores sell the devices for between $99 and $500 each.

Charge your GPS device up. A single charge will usually last for between five to 10 days depending on the model that you purchased.

Turn the power button on the device and place it someplace in the interior of the car. If you want to keep it hidden, then you can place it in the trunk or under a seat. If you do not have access to the interior of the car, then you can use a metal box that comes with a magnetic strip, which you can purchase from a hardware store. Attach the device to the interior of the rear or front bumpers of the car.

Log in to your account. When you purchase the GPS tracker, you will be given a password and log in details to the company website. Once you have logged in, you will see a blinking dot on top of a map. This is the GPS device. As it moves, you can follow along with it on the street map. Once turned on, the GPS will update the position to the servers between every 30 seconds to every five minutes depending on which model you purchased.
