How to Get Credit Card Companies to Stop Selling Information

Once you sign up for one credit card offer, you might get many additional offers in the mail. Credit card companies use information to send you credit card and loan offers that fit your credit profile. The process of removing yourself from this information list is called opting out and it is accomplished by putting yourself on the opt-out list.

      Open your web browser and navigate to the Opt Out Prescreen website. This website is run by the four major credit reporting agencies: TransUnion, Experian, Innovis and Equifax.

      Click the button at the bottom of the page, labeled "Click Here to Opt-In or Opt-Out."

      Choose one of the following options, depending on your preferences: "Electronic Opt-Out for Five Years" or "Permanent Opt-Out by Mail." You have to mail in a paper form if you choose the second option.

      Fill out the information fields completely, entering all required informatino. This information is used to take your personal and credit information off of information lists that the credit reporting agencies generate.

      Click "Confirm" to send the form through.
