How to Become a Realtor in AZ
Becoming an Arizona real estate agent requires schooling, testing and meeting certain requirements to obtain a state license. Arizona is a non-reciprocal state, so agents holding a license in another state still need to apply for one in Arizona. The Arizona Department of Real Estate will turn down applicants currently incarcerated or on parole due to a felony conviction and may deny an applicant with misdemeanor convictions. After a license is granted, an Arizona real estate agent may become an Arizona Realtor by joining the National Association of Realtors. A Realtor subscribes to the code of ethics provided by the organization.

Meet the minimum age to apply, which is 18.

Complete 90 classroom hours of education at a real estate school approved by the Arizona Department of Real Estate. The department provides an online tool to search for approved schools near your city (second link in Resources). The school will issue a Prelicensure Education Certificate upon passing an exam.

Register for state and national exams. Contact and fee information is found on the Arizona Department of Real Estate website. As of July 2010, the fee for the exams is $125 and real estate agent license is $159. You must pass both exams. Some of the cities that offer the tests include Flagstaff, Tucson, Yuma and Phoenix. The testing site will give you the real estate license application form upon successful completion of the exams.

Attend the six-hour Contract Law and Contract Writing continuing education class at a school approved by the Arizona Department of Real Estate. You must pass the class before your license is activated.
