Instructions

    • 1

Pour fuel stabilizer directly into the gas tank. Make sure the tank is full of fuel to avoid condensation.

    • 2

Examine all engine wiring and repair any frayed or exposed wires. Check all hoses and replace any that are cracked or feel soft. Connect the engine flush unit to a hose and couple it on the outdrive. Locate the spark arrestor on top of the carburetor and remove it. Turn on the engine blower and start the motor. Allow it to run long enough to allow the water to exit the exhaust port. Turn off the fuel supply and pour engine fogging oil directly in the carburetor until the engine stalls. Turn off the engine and replace the arrestor. Using a socket, remove the spark plugs and spray a little fogging oil in each of the cylinders. Reinstall the plugs. Cover the arrestor with plastic and secure around the carburetor to avoid moisture entering the engine.

Locate the drain plugs and using an open-ended wrench, remove them by turning them counterclockwise. Make sure you locate all drain plugs and allow the water to drain completely from the engine. Engine service manuals can assist with the locations of the plugs. Replace the drain plugs. Remove water hose connections and pour in RV antifreeze to prevent any remaining trapped water from freezing. Reconnect the hoses.

    • 4

Remove the dipstick and attach the oil pump to the connection at the base of the dipstick tube. Pump out the used oil into a container. Remove the oil filter with a filter wrench and install a new unit. Add new oil to the engine and do not overfill. Most marine mechanics recommend using a quality brand of 30W oil.

    • 5

Place a flat oil container under the stern drive and lower the unit to operating position. Using a large flat screwdriver, remove the top vent screw first and then the lower screw. Allow the lubricant to drain completely. Connect a stern drive oil pump onto the new quart of lower unit lubricant and pump oil into the stern drive through the lower plug opening until the new oil exits the top vent screw hole. Replace the vent screw and remove the pump. Quickly replace the lower screw and clean off excess lubricant from the lower unit.

Disconnect the battery and give it a full charge. Keep the boat covered and secure throughout the winter.
