Instructions

    • 1

Get a plan. Create a dollhouse plan of your own, find one at free dollhouse plan sites online or from plan books at the library. Get as detailed plans as possible to make building the dollhouse much easier and less stressful.

    • 2

Cut out all the pieces you need to the dollhouse. Use a saw or utility knife, depending on the type of wood you want to use. Cut out all of the trim for the outside of the dollhouse as well.

    • 3

Sand any rough edges of the wood.

    • 4

Decorate each room of the dollhouse. Cover the inside walls and floors with whatever wallpaper, fabric or paint you want. Use the utility knife and a straight edge to trim wallpaper from the edges of the walls for a very neat look.

    • 5

Build any staircases if your dollhouse has them.

    • 6

Make the windows, usually of some form of plastic, and insert them where necessary in all of the outside walls of the dollhouse.

    • 7

Assemble the outside walls of the dollhouse using a tack hammer and finishing nails. Add in additional stories, inside wall supports and stairs.

    • 8

Add the outside décor to the house, whether you are painting the exterior or putting on a vinyl type siding.

    • 9

Top the house with the roof, if your particular dollhouse plan has one.

    • 10

Trim the outside of the house with moldings at the corners to help hold the edges of the siding in place or just give a neat look to the painted edges. Add trim around the outside of the windows and doors as well as any additional trim around the roof of the house.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you have to glue things to the walls or floors of the house, such as carpets and wallpaper, use a small paintbrush roller. This helps to evenly spread the glue and prevents so many bubbles from building up underneath.

  • Using a tack hammer when inserting nails helps to prevent mishaps. A tack hammer is much smaller than a regular hammer and works better for smaller and more tedious projects.
