Finding your suit size

Determining your suit size consists of simple measurements of the chest, neck, sleeve, waist, and inseam. The suit jacket, or blazer size corresponds with the inches measured across the chest. A chest measurement of 36 inches corresponds with a size 36 blazer. Suits also take height into account with short, regular, and long sizes. A 6-inch differential exists between the jacket and slack sizes. A size 40 blazer comes with slacks measuring 34 inches around the waist. Some of these measurements will require assistance.

Instructions

1. Measure from underarm to underarm and shoulder to shoulder holding the measuring tape horizontally.

2. Measure around the thickest part of the neck including the Adam's apple, allowing a finger to fit under the measuring tape to permit adequate breathing room with a dress shirt.

3. Place your hand on your hip creating a 90 degree angle with the elbow. Measure from the neck across the shoulder down the outside of the arm stopping at the wrist to determine the sleeve length of the suit.

4. Wrap the measuring tape around the waist starting at the belly button keeping the tape parallel with the floor.

5. Put on a pair of shoes appropriate for formal attire and a pair of well-fitting dress pants, or pants with a similar style. Measure from the inside of the groin to the top of the dress shoe to determine the inseam length for your suit pants.
