How to Optimize Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer 7 is a web browser that comes pre-installed in Windows operating systems. Internet Explorer 7 browser can be optimized in several ways to maximize your daily Internet browsing, such as by managing your add-ons, adjusting the security settings and clearing the browser's cache.

      Disable add-ons that are not important to you. Open IE7, click "Tools," "Manage Add-ons" and "Enable/Disable Add-ons." Browse through the list of add-ons installed in the computer. Ensure that the tick box for "Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer" is selected. Click the add-on you want to disable, and select "Disable."

      Configure the security settings in IE7. If the browser is too restrictive, you will not be able to open certain websites. To revert back to the default security settings, click "Tools," "Internet Options" and the "Security" tab. Click "Reset all zones to default level," and click "OK."

      Revert back to the default Internet Explorer settings if your browser has slowed down. Click "Tools," "Internet Options," the "Advanced" tab and "Reset" under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings."

      Clear the browsing history. Click "Tools," "Internet Options" and "Delete" under "Browsing History." If you want to delete other files other than the browsing history, select "Delete Browsing History" from the "Tools" menu. Browser files that you can delete include temporary Internet files, cookies, the list of websites you have visited, form data and passwords.

      Download and install Internet Explorer updates whenever they are available. Internet Explorer updates are included in the updates for your Windows operating system. Ensure that your operating system is configured to download updates automatically. For Windows XP users, open "My Computer," right-click the icon, select "Properties" and click "Automatic Updates." Click "Automatic (Recommended)." For Windows Vista users, click "Start," "All Programs," "Windows Update," "Change Settings" and "Install Updates Automatically."
