Instructions

    • 1

Locate a natural spring near your home. Springs can often be found in or around national forests and mountain paths, as well as near large freshwater lakes. A spring within an hour or two of your home is best, as longer travel distances increase the chance the water will get too warm on your trip home.

    • 2

Place the end of the hand pump into the spring, pushing down on the pump to force the air out and draw water into the dispensing tube. Depress the pump three or four times to flush out any debris that might have accumulated in the pump.

    • 3

Set a glass jar on the ground near the spring and feed the dispensing tube into the opening of the jar. Push down on the pump and fill the jar to within one inch of the top. Screw the lid onto the jar and set it to the side. Continue this process until all the jugs have been filled.

    • 4

Wrap each jug in a thick towel or blanket and place them in a large box in your vehicle. The blankets protect the jars as you drive and will keep out light that can cause algae to grow in the water.

    • 5

Store the jars in a cool, dark place, such as a basement or pantry. Leave the bottles wrapped to maximize shelf life and prevent damage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Spring water should be refrigerated for optimal flavor, and will last indefinitely if stored out of direct sunlight.
