How to Make a Magic Fold Wallet
Oilcloth fabric can be used to make a durable, attractive and practical folding wallet that can hold money and credit cards. Vinyl oilcloth is strong, waterproof and inexpensive. It does not fray and can be found in a wide variety of colors and patterns at fabric stores. A sewing machine will deliver a strong straight stitch that will secure the wallet's magic fold construction. Stitch up a bunch of these useful wallets for some holiday gifts that are sure to be appreciated.
Things You'll Need
- 1/4 yard double-sided vinyl oilcloth fabric
- Ruler
- Scissors
- Sewing machine
- Carpet thread

Cut a rectangle of oilcloth to measure 7 inches by 8 1/2 inches with the scissors.

Cut two rectangles of oilcloth to measure 4 inches by 3 1/2 inches.

Fold one smaller rectangle widthwise, 1/2 inch from the bottom, to create two credit-card slots.

Attach one smaller folded rectangle to the upper right-hand side of the larger rectangle by using the sewing machine to sew a straight topstitch 1/4 inch from the side and bottom edges of the smaller rectangle.

Fold the second smaller rectangle up 1/2 inch from the bottom and sew it to the upper left-hand side of the larger rectangle.

Fold the larger rectangle in half lengthwise and sew up the sides with a straight seam 1/4 inch from the edge. Fold the completed wallet in half lengthwise with the credit-card slots on the inside of the fold.
