Dymo Label Point 200 Troubleshooting

The most common technical issues affecting the Dymo LabelPoint 200 include screen or printing problems resulting from insufficient power and poor print quality from incorrect contrast settings. Other issues include jammed label tape, obstructions blocking the printhead, a loose ink ribbon or a dirty printhead. Additionally, the Dymo LabelPoint 200 printer's cutter blade can accumulate a buildup of label tape adhesive, paper particles and dust that can cause uneven or poor label cutting.

Instructions

  1. Insufficient Power

    • 1

Make sure the unit is turned on.

    • 2

Check that the power source is properly connected. If you're using batteries, open the battery compartment and check that each battery is aligned to match polarities. If you're using the AC adapter, make sure the plug connections are pushed completely into the unit and electrical socket.

    • 3

Confirm that the main power source has power. If the battery polarities are properly aligned, replace the batteries with six new alkaline or Ni-Cd batteries. If the AC adapter plugs are secure, plug a different device into the electrical socket and turn it on to confirm the socket is live.

    Poor Print Quality

    • 4

Follow the steps in the "Insufficient Power" section and print a test label.

    • 5

Adjust the print contrast if the ink appears too light or dark. Push the "Shift" and "Space" keys at the same time, and then press the "Print" key. Push the "Right Arrow" key to darken the label text or the "Left Arrow" key to lighten it. Push the "Return" key to save the setting.

    • 6

Check the cassette if the label text is smeared, printing at an angle or not at all -- especially if you see a printer jam error message "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" on the display. Push any key to remove the message. Turn off the unit.

    • 7

Open the access door and carefully remove the cassette. Pull any jammed label tape or other obstructions out of the unit.

    • 8

Tighten the ink ribbon and/or label tape over the mouth of the cassette by rotating the spool on the top-left side of the cassette carefully clockwise. If the cassette is non-repairable, dispose of it and replace it with a new cassette. Reinsert the cassette into the unit, close the access door and print a test label.

    • 9

Clean the printhead, especially if white horizontal lines break the text. Remove the cassette again and set it aside.

    • 10

Dip a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and shake away the excess. Wipe the printhead carefully with the swab to remove any debris. Air dry the printhead for five minutes, return the cassette to the unit and begin printing.

    Uneven or Poor Label Cutting

    • 11

Remove the cassette from the unit.

    • 12

Push the cutter lever, and hold the lever in place to access the cutter blade.

    • 13

Dip a cotton swab into rubbing alcohol and shake away the excess. Wipe both sides of the blade. Repeat with additional swabs and alcohol as needed until all the label tape adhesive dissolves and rubs away.

    • 14

Return the tape to the unit and begin creating labels.

Tips & Warnings

  • If white vertical lines run through the label text, adjust the contrast to a darker setting.

  • Unplugging the AC adapter from the electrical socket before unplugging it from the unit can affect the unit's memory, deleting the last programmed label settings. Always unplug the AC adaptor from the unit first.
