How to Bookmark Audio Books

Book readers, who often place a bookmark in between pages or fold page corners to hold their spot, face a challenge with audio books. Many audio players, even after turning them off, will keep your spot. Once you turn on the player, the CD will pick up again. Audio books are the perfect gifts for people who commute long distances or whose vision is failing.

Instructions

    • 1

Wait until a natural stopping point in the audio book. Ideally, stop listening at the end of a chapter or track number. This will make it easier to find the spot at a later point, if it gets lost. Try to remember the chapter and track number.

    • 2

Press the pause button on the device, before turning the power off. The CD won’t start until the play button is engaged, after power is restored. The button is usually two parallel, vertical lines inside a square-like shape.

    • 3

Push the play button. The CD should start in the place where you left off. If it doesn’t, try to find the approximate place where you left off, by scanning through tracks or looking at the CD package to find where the breaks in chapters or sections are.

    • 4

Write down the track number and the minute and second mark, if you switch playing devices. Almost every CD player or computer audio program has a visual display, which indicates how far the audio book has played. With the number in hand, you can scan for your place on the CD.

    • 5

Download a bookmarking application, if you use a portable device. The iTunes Bookmark application offers the ability to bookmark multiple spots, including passages you enjoy as well as your current place in the audiobook.
