Instructions

    • 1

Send out invitations which include the day, time, location of party and RSVP information. Invitations should also clearly indicate that it is a makeover party. Let the parents of kids attending know what your makeovers will include. This can be done either by including a note with the invitation or discussed in person when they call to RSVP. Keep a list of any concerns parents have regarding their children participating in the makeovers, what they are permitted to do or not do and any skin allergies they might have.

    • 2

Plan what makeovers will be available---hair, makeup, nails, fashions. Keep in mind the number of kids who will be receiving makeovers and the allotted time for the party. Have enough supplies (hairbrushes, combs, hair accessories, nail polish, etc.) for each makeover. When planning your makeovers, consider the ages of the kids involved.

    • 3

Enlist help! Extra hands to help with the makeovers will enable more kids to be made over in a shorter amount of time. Some beauty salons have employees available to come to your home (for a fee) to do hair, makeup and/or nails. Ask a neighborhood teen or older siblings of the kids attending your party to help out. Many times, moms of the party guests are willing to stay for the party and help out. Don't be afraid to ask for help.

    • 4

Decorate with tablecloths, plates, napkins and cups that match the makeover theme. Usually these can be found in party stores or department stores that sell party goods. If you cannot find decorations with makeup on them check for decorations in the fashion, glamour or princess aisle that can work with your theme.

    • 5

Set up your workstation(s) before the party. Ideally, the makeover stations should be away from the rest of the party. Have a station set up with the necessary supplies for each phase of the makeover. Provide a seat for the child receiving the makeover.

    • 6

Supply accessories such as hats, boas, sunglasses, fancy scarves, purses, gloves and jewelry to complete the makeovers.

    • 7

Take "before" photos of each child when they arrive at the party, and "after" photos when their makeover is complete.

    • 8

Plan activities for the kids to do while waiting for their makeovers. Games or crafts can keep children entertained during the wait time. Craft ideas include making or decorating picture frames or mini photo albums, beading or jewelry making. Some fun activities include karaoke, dance contests, and a fashion show when the makeovers are complete.

    • 9

Keep the food simple. Remember that the kids will have just had their nails polished and they will be wearing lipstick. Find foods to eat that require minimal use of the hands. Anything eaten with a toothpick or on a stick works well. Finger sandwiches, cheese cubes, small hot or cold hors d'oeuvres, fruit kabobs or pretzels make good snack foods for a makeover party.

Tips & Warnings

  • Boys don't need to be excluded! Though they may want to skip the nail polish and makeup, boys can participate by getting new hairstyles. Spike or flatten hair with a little bit of gel, or part hair on the opposite side for a different look. Boys can also dress up by wearing a tie, sunglasses and hat.
