How to Sell Antique Trucks
Selling a classic or antique truck requires a little more effort than selling a car used in a daily commute. A strong resale market for classic pickup trucks exists, but it is a specialty niche and requires some research into a wider marketplace than your local classified ads to obtain the best price. Enthusiasts for one model may care little for another, so selling an antique truck requires targeting a very specific buyer. Not only are buyers often brand-specific in their taste, often a buyer wants only one specific year of truck.

1
Research the market for the specific year and make of truck you want to sell. Online classified ads are a good start. Ebay Motors may have something to compare in the active or completed auctions. Hemming's Motor News has been around for years and is a good source of classified ads to compare your truck with. Many libraries have back issues, and there is also an online version. Local car clubs often have members who are a good source of market knowledge. Price guides are available specifically for classic cars and trucks. You should look at a broad range of prices to get a feel for the market.

2
Determine the condition of your classic truck. Miles don't matter on classic cars as much as condition. There are guides to a 100-point restoration and a good market exists for usable "daily driver" antique trucks. Buyers pay the highest prices for "completely stock" or "completely custom." Any replacement motors or other major parts in the truck need to be original equipment parts for best value. An exception might be the addition of power brakes or power steering that make the classic truck more drivable.

3
List special features of your truck. This includes any manufacturer's options like larger engine or optional air conditioning. List any known repairs, maintenance and restoration work done. Document any body work so there are no surprises for a buyer. Truck buyers want to know when major repairs took place. Proper maintenance records going back as far as possible also help sell an antique truck for the best price.

4
Market your car in every venue you can. Classic and antique trucks often sell after being included in local or regional car shows. Major classic car auction companies often have a special auction just for antique trucks. Get word out to classic car clubs and place free online classified ads. The more advertising to a targeted classic car and truck audience, the better.
