How to Use the Peavey XR-700 Mixing Console
First released by Peavey Electronics in 1984, the XR-700 dual powered mixing console was the first mixer/amplifier designed with built-in mixing, EQ functions, and power amp facilities specifically designed for the monitor function. It was one of the most sophisticated audio mixing boards of its time, and decades later still possesses all of the basic functions desired for live audio mixing.
Instructions
-
Setup
-
1
Connect the power cable to a grounded power outlet. Flip on the power switch located on the rear panel of the mixing console.
-
2
Plug in any audio cables for input devices, such as instruments or microphones, into the corresponding input jacks on the rear panel of the console. Only connect one input device to each channel.
-
-
3
Connect your main output speakers to the main output jacks on the back of the board.
-
4
Connect any other auxiliary input or output lines to the appropriately labeled jacks on the rear panel of the board.
-
5
Connect headphones to one of the two headphone jacks on the front panel of the mixing console, if you choose to use them. The jacks are labeled "main" and "mon" for monitor.
Main Operation
-
6
Adjust the "Main," "Monitor," and "Eff" (for "effects") knobs on the lower right section of the front panel to control the overall level of each of those output channels.
-
7
Adjust the "Rev Ret" knob to control the amount of electronic reverberation that is mixed back into the main mix buss.
-
8
Adjust the "Rev Contour" knob to control the timbre of the electronic reverberation.
-
9
Adjust the "Eff Rev to Mon" knob to blend between the internal reverberation signal and the effects return circuit. This change will affect the signal being sent to the monitor.
-
10
Adjust the "Eff Ret" knob to control the gain of the effects return preamplifier.
Channel Operation
-
11
Adjust the "Level" knob of a specific input channel to control the channel's gain. Try to adjust each channel to allow the "main" knob to be set near the middle of its range, which is about level 5.
-
12
Adjust the "Monitor" knob to control the audio level sent through the monitor output channel. Note that this control knob is not affected by the "Level" or EQ knobs.
-
13
Adjust the "High," "Mid," and "Low" knobs to properly equalize the channel. Each knob allows plus or minus fifteen dB of control.
-
14
Adjust the "Effects" knob to control the gain of the effects return amplifier.
