Good information is of the essence.

There are at least two types of information booklets about a foreign country: one directed to students, one directed to tourists. Both introduce the foreign country to the reader, underlying different aspects in accord with the reader´s needs.

Booklet for students: you will have to consult and extract your information from encyclopedias, geography and history books and other such educational sources.

Booklet for tourists: you will need to gather information from airlines, rail systems, cultural events calendars and other sources.

      Gather all the information. Sort it into three groups: only for the tourist booklet, only for the student booklet, and that which both booklets will share.

      Decide which points you are going to include in each booklet and type in your computer a short paragraph about each point.

      Consider these points for the student booklet:
      Location of the country: continent, neighboring countries, map of the country.
      Geography: main rivers, mountains, lakes, regions and cities of the country. Include images of the main ones.
      Population: number of people, race/races, creeds.
      Language/s spoken
      Government: type of government, chief of state (president, king, etc.), governing bodies national and local.
      Political parties
      Conflicts (at war, civil unrest, etc)
      Economy: natural resources, industries, employment, per capita yearly revenue, etc.
      Cultural life: educational levels, artists, handicraft specialties, music, etc.
      Description of main regions with large cities and their characteristics (for instance: Rome contains a country inside its limits: the Vatican)
      History: an overview of the main historical periods

      Consider these points for the tourist booklet:
      Location of the country: map
      Main regions and cities with tourist attractions (beaches, national parks, mountains)
      Transportation: trains, buses, car rentals
      Hotels and motels
      Camping sites
      Facilities for children and pets at each spot
      Amusement parks
      Theme parks
      Consulates and hospitals
      Museums
      City parks
      Temples, churches
      Architectural attractions
      Local cuisine, description: handful of restaurants for each region or city, from cheap to luxury, with their specialties
      Shopping: main department stores and shopping malls, local handicraft markets
      Theaters and concert halls
      Night clubs, discos, bars
      Warnings for the country, if issued by the government; civil unrest
      General advice that you deem necessary

      Choose your images. Remember to whom the booklet is addressed. If you work on your student booklet, the "tone" of the images is going to be a bit more formal than the images used for the tourist booklet. Insert the images in the text.

      Proofread, edit and correct your writing and adjust images as necessary. Format them in an attractive way with any simple word-processing software or use a design program.

      Make a PDF and send to the printer or print the material yourself with your own printer. Assemble your printed pages, staple them or have them spiral bound.
