How to Program a Remote for a 1997 Honda Civic
You can take advantage of the keyless entry system offered on the 1997 Honda Civic. All you need is a remote and a few programming instructions to get you started. Once programmed correctly, you can unlock your doors without using your key.

Enter your 1997 Honda Civic and put your key into the ignition.

Turn your key over to the "On" position and locate your radio. Search for a button on the radio labeled "Valet". This button is a shiny metallic button situated between the "am/fm" button and the "CD" button. Press the "Valet" button and hold it in. The door locks on your Honda Civic will automatically lock and unlock to confirm programming mode.

Find your remote and press any of the buttons on the remote, one time. Thereafter, your 1997 Honda Civic will automatically lock and unlock your doors.

Switch the key in your ignition to the "Off" position to leave programming mode.
