Since there is a significant need for the lights to be in proper working order, you should be familiar with how to change them before they go bad. You will need the lamp-replacement kit that came with your Whelen strobe, because you can't simply use your fingers. Instructions

    • 1

Set the light system's power switch to "Off."

    • 2

Remove the polycarbonate lens to gain access to strobe lamp. Carefully rest the lens on a secure surface, free from risk of damage.

    • 3

Carefully position the replacement tool over the lamp. The winged pieces of the tool should correspond with the winged pieces of the device that is holding the lamp in place.

    • 4

Turn the tool to the left about an 1/8 of an inch, so the lamp holder will come free. You should only have to turn it a very small distance. This allows you to remove the burned out bulb by carefully backing up the replacement tool. Keep backing up until the tool and the bulb have completely cleared from the rest of the equipment.

    • 5

Clean the reflector with a soft rag or delicate fabric, to help keep the light's intensity at its optimal performance level. Don't use anything abrasive to clean the reflector, or any other part of the equipment.

    • 6

Insert the new strobe lamp into the casing harness, then attach the power cables. Align the bulb sockets with the reflectors as you insert the bulb. There is only one way the light can be inserted, so follow the markings.

    • 7

Twist the lamp with the replacement tool 1/8 of an inch to the right to lock it into place.

    • 8

Replace the polycarbonate lens to complete the process. Your Whelen strobe lamp should be fully functional again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only change one lamp at a time. Doing more at once can cause the cables, connectors and lamp assemblies to shift out of place, making them inaccessible..

  • Wait 10 minutes after powering off the strobe before attempting to remove the lens or the lamp.
