How to View & Convert Raw Files in Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 comes with built-in software that is used to read and render RAW camera files. RAW files are uncompressed image files that contain the original photo information and can be changed and manipulated more than a compressed JPEG file. Opening a RAW file in Photoshop takes a few more steps than opening a regular image -- but it is a relatively easy process.
Instructions

1
Load the RAW images from your digital camera onto your computer hard drive. If you try opening the pictures directly from the camera, the process can be slow and potentially damage the pictures on the camera.
-
2
Click on "File" and "Open" within Adobe Photoshop. Select all of the RAW files you want to import by holding the "CTRL" key. Press "Open" and wait for Photoshop to process the files and open them within the Adobe Camera RAW viewer.
-
-
3
Scroll through your photos. A small thumbnail of each photo appears on the left side of the screen. The first photo you chose appears in the center of the screen.
-
4
Use the on-screen tools to crop, adjust and edit your photos. Different tools in the Adobe Camera RAW include color adjustments, sharpening and brightness/contrast editing.
-
5
Highlight each photo by holding the "CRTL" key and clicking on each thumbnail. Click on the "Save" icon in the bottom icon of the screen and a pop-up box will appear.
-
6
Click on the "Browse" icon to select a save location for your pictures. Choose a different location than the original so the files do not get mixed up.
-
7
Choose the saving scheme for the files. You can use the same file names, or select new file names for each file. Choose a scheme from the drop-down menu, or enter in the new file names in the white boxes.
-
8
Select the type of file to which you want to convert. The default selection is JPEG, but you can also save the images as GIF, PSD and TIFF photo files. Keep the quality at 10 for the highest quality images.
-
9
Press "OK" to save the files. Check the progress in the bottom-right corner of the screen to see how many saves remain. Exit out of Adobe Camera Raw when the transfers have completed.
