How to Fine Tune HD Television
When you set up your HD television, it needs to be properly fine-tuned to make sure that you fully utilize its picture quality. Most TV sets have a pre-set standard -- for showroom purposes -- to allow you to display the bright colors that are not often used at home. If you want to use the exact same settings on your TV, you can do that with just a few clicks on your remote control.

1
Connect your HD TV to your DVD player by matching the green, blue and red cables to their color-coded counterparts at the back of your player. Plug the one opposite of your color-coded cables into your HD TV set.
-
2
Turn on your DVD player and your HDTV set by pushing their power buttons. Insert a movie or DVD that uses a good deal of black and dark colors to allow you to properly set the TV settings.

3
Push the "Menu" button of your TV and choose the "Picture" option. Navigate through the TV settings until you come to "Brightness." Pause your movie during a dark scene where there is a large amount of shadows. Adjust your TV's brightness settings until you can see the shadow areas, while making sure not to blow out the light areas of your screen.
-
4
Choose "Contrast" and look for a scene in the movie with a large amount of sky or white content in its picture. Adjust your contrast settings so your light-colored objects do not face into other objects in the background.
-
5
Pause your movie at a scene with lots of red, blue and green colors. Select "Color" to adjust the settings until all its colors are equal and not one shade stands out.
