New business-owners often lack the necessary funds to indulge in traditional advertising methods like television, radio, print ads or direct-mail. Your advertising budget may be minuscule, or completely non-existent, when just starting your new business. With every imaginable business creating websites online, consumers still use the internet to search for businesses in their areas. No matter what type of product or service you offer, there are more than a few ways to advertise your business locally on the internet for free.

List your business in the online Yellow Pages. A basic listing is free and gives you the opportunity to display detailed information about your business and a link to your website. For a fee you can enhance your listing with a graphic, priority placement and interactive maps and driving directions. Once you click on the "Advertise With Us" button, the site will walk you through the process of listing your business.

Sign up with Yahoo! Local. In spite of Google holding around 85 percent of the search engine market, many consumers do still use Yahoo! to search the internet. Yahoo! Local can pinpoint a user's location to display the appropriate advertisements for local businesses. A basic listing is free and allows you to display your phone number, local address and web site URL. Your business can be placed in up to five different categories, and you can list services, products, brands and more. For a small monthly fee you can get an enhanced listing that lets you add photos, online coupons, a logo and tagline. On the bottom of the homepage there is a link labeled "Advertise With Us."
