How to Play QuickTime on Windows Media Player

MOV is a file format that was developed by Apple, and it is used to circulate digital video files that are especially encoded to stream through the company's QuickTime media player. Although MOV files also can be opened with VLC and RealPlayerSP, they cannot be streamed through Microsoft's Windows Media Player. Nonetheless, it is possible to play a QuickTime video in Windows Media Player once the file has been converted into a format that is supported by the application.

Instructions

    • 1

Convert the MOV file into a digital video format that is supported by Windows Media Player. Freeware such as iWisoft Free Video Converter, Any Video Converter and Aura Video Converter all can be downloaded and installed to reformat MOV files as WMV, AVI, ASF or MPG files.

Launch Windows Media Player. Go to "File" and select "Open." Locate the converted MOV file in the file selection window. Double-click the item and it will be loaded into the application.

    • 3

Play the video with the playback buttons on the control bar. Commands include play/pause, stop, skip ahead and skip back. Control the volume level with the speaker slide bar and expand the viewing area by clicking the full-screen button. To reach a specific frame in the video, click on the timeline.

Shut down Windows Media Player when you are done playing the video. Go to "File" and select "Exit."
