How to Conquer MMORPG Games

You're not like other gamers. When you pick up a new game, you don't focus on the incredible graphics, the in-depth quest storylines, the carefully-orchestrated music. These are all icing on the cake.

You want to conquer.

It's difficult to "win" a MMORPG, or massively multiplayer online role-playing game, as they are typically built to be an ever-expanding world without a definite end. But you have a goal: you want to be the best. The cream of the crop. You want the highest level, the best gear.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a guide for the kind of character you're going to play. There are many websites that are game-specific and have free guides or pages that can tell you how to optimize your gear. "Conquering" an MMORPG is greatly a numbers game; the more powerful your gear, the higher your damage will be, and you will kill enemies faster.

An optimal guide will tell you what gear you will want, specific not only to the class you've chosen but to your character's specialization as well. It should list the attributes of your desired gear as well as where you can find it. Follow those directions and get your gear.

Join a leveling or raiding guild. These groups include people with the same goals as you, driven toward power and accomplishment. You will find people to help you in your questing, to keep your character healthy and well-equipped, and to assist in leveling up. At lower levels, sometimes one of your higher-level guildmates can even take you through instances, just the two of you, so that you can get some good gear.

The most beneficial aspect of joining a leveling or raiding guild is that you will have a steady group of people with whom you can run instances.

This is an optional step, as some people truly prefer to go it alone, but you'll probably find that things go much faster in a guild.

    • 3

Participate in instances. Many current MMORPGs have these specialized dungeons or scenarios in which you and other player-characters can adventure together. The experience points needed to level up your character are often rewarded faster in instances, and enemies are often much more likely to drop a rare item. More experience points and better gear will help move you toward that final character level.

    • 4

Ask questions. If you don't know where the optimal place is to quest, or if you don't know which quest reward would better suit your character, ask. If you're in a guild, ask your guildmates. If not, most major gatherings of characters--an in-game city, town or other establishment--should have a chat feature. Ask the people there. If your game has a message board, you can probably ask the question there, too. Never be afraid to ask a question--most people are willing to help.

Tips & Warnings

  • MMORPGs include players who are involved in the game for the role-playing aspect, or are casual gamers who just want to take their time in leveling. Respect their desires and do not criticize or give them grief.

  • Some websites offer power-leveling services or will offer to sell you in-game gold for real-world money. Power-leveling and buying gold are often considered a breach of Terms of Service on many of these games, and could cost you your account and characters. Get your levels and your money the legitimate way, through hard work in the game.
