How to Reset the Oil Life in a Honda Civic

Many model years of the Honda Civic feature an oil life indicator that alerts the driver when it is time for a regular oil change. When the oil life drops below 15 percent, the oil life warning indicator is continuously displayed on the dash whenever the Civic is turned on. The oil life indicator is usually reset by the mechanic who changes the oil, but if you change your own oil, you can reset the oil life indicator manually. The process for resetting the oil life indicator is the same for every Honda Civic.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the "II" position.

    • 2

Press the "SEL/RESET" button repeatedly until the display shows the oil life indicator.

    • 3

Press and hold the "SEL/RESET" button for approximately 10 seconds until the engine oil life indicator blinks.

    • 4

Press and hold down the "SEL/RESET" button for about five more seconds until the oil life indicator resets to 100.
