How to Burn a Dual-Layer ISO to DVD

How to Burn a Dual-Layer ISO to DVD thumbnail
Dual-layer DVDs can hold dual-layer ISO files.

Since special features, like deleted scenes, trailers and director's commentaries, have become a standard addition to DVDs. Many DVDs require more than the 4.7 GB of space available on a single-layered disc. That's where dual-layer discs come in. Dual-layer DVDs offer nearly twice the storage capacity of single-layer discs, providing 8.5 GB of space. If you need to burn a dual-layer DVD image file, or ISO, to disc, be aware that not every burning program has the ability to burn dual-layer discs. A few programs, however, do provide the necessary tools.

    • 2

Place a dual-layer DVD into the DVD drive of your computer. Launch the AoA DVD Copy application.

    • 3

Click the "Import" button and find the dual-layer ISO file you want to burn in the window that comes up. Double-click the ISO to pull it into the program.

    • 4

Click "Export" and choose the DVD drive that contains the dual-layer disc. Then, click "Output Settings" to bring up the "Output Settings" dialog box. Pull down the menu under "Target Disc/Output Size" and choose the "8.5 GB" option.

    • 5

Press the "OK" button to return to the main screen. Then, click "Start" to burn the dual-layer ISO to the disc.

    DVD Copy Express

    • 6

Download DVD Copy Express from the Xilisoft website. (See Resources.) Install DVD Copy Express to your computer.

    • 7

Put a dual-layer disc in your computer's DVD drive. Open DVD Copy Express.

    • 8

Pull down the arrow by "Source" and select the drive that contains the dual-layer ISO you want to burn, such as the "Local Disk (C:)" drive. If the drive contains more than one ISO file, the program automatically picks the first ISO on the drive, so you must have only one ISO on the hard drive at a time.

    • 9

Click the arrow by "Target." Choose the DVD drive that contains the dual-layer disc.

    • 10

Press "Start Copy." DVD Copy Express writes the dual-layer ISO to the disc.

Download Nero Burning ROM and install it to your computer. Nero Burning ROM can be downloaded from the Nero Downloads Web page. (See Resources.)

    • 12

Insert the dual-layered disc into your computer and launch Nero Burning ROM. When the program comes up, click "DVD-Video" from the options that appear to bring up the disc-burning tools.

    • 13

Click the "Burn" tab, check the box beside "Write" and click the "New" button. Navigate through the contents of your hard drive in the pane at the left of the screen. Click the ISO and the files contained in the ISO populate the right pane.

    • 14

Select all the files contained in the ISO by right-clicking a file and choosing "Select All." Then, right-click the file again and select "Copy to Compilation."

    • 15

Pull down the menu by "Drive" and select the drive in which the dual-layer disc is located. Click the "Burn" button to bring up the "Burn" window and then click "Burn" again to burn the ISO to the disc.
