How to Share an Internet Connection With a Dual Network Card

Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is a type of network setup used by small home or office networks. You connect your DSL or cable modem to one computer and share the Internet connection with other users on the network. This is beneficial if you don't have a router to set up a shared Internet connection with an older DSL or cable modem. Windows ICS is a part of each operating system version.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Click "Network and Internet" and then click "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Manage network connections" to open a list of network cards on the computer.

    • 2

Right-click the network card used on the home network. If you have two network cards, use the one that connects to the DSL or cable modem or the card that connects to the Internet router. Select "Properties."

    • 3

Click the "Sharing" tab. Check the option labeled "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection." Click "OK" to save your ICS changes.

    • 4

Reboot your computer for the changes to take effect. Reboot each client computer as well. These computers require a reboot as well to synchronize IP settings with your main ICS server.
