    • 2

Remove the screws under the lint filter cover, unfastening them with a screwdriver. Pry the bottom front panel away from the dryer cabinet by sliding a screwdriver between the panel and the cabinet on both sides and pulling the panel forward to detach it from the dryer.

    • 3

Locate the two screws at the bottom of the upper front panel of the dryer and unfasten them with a screwdriver. Lift the front panel up to detach it from the metal clips at the top of the dryer cabinet.

    • 4

Unplug the two-pronged door switch connector from the back of the upper front panel by hand. Set the panel out of the way.

    • 5

Find the two bolts underneath the top lid near the front of the dryer and unfasten the bolts with a nut driver. Flip the top lid back so it is resting against the wall on the rear hinges.

    • 6

Locate the idler arm near the motor at the bottom of the cabinet and move the idler arm forward by hand to relieve the tension on the belt. Remove the belt from around the idler arm and motor pulleys as well as from around the dryer drum.

    • 7

Remove the drum from the dryer cabinet by lifting up on the bottom of the drum in the rear and holding the front of the drum with the other hand. Take the dryer drum out of the cabinet and set the drum aside.

    • 8

Unfasten the electrical wiring connectors from the dryer motor, using a socket wrench to remove the nuts. Unbolt the dryer motor from the cabinet with a socket wrench and take the motor out of the cabinet.

    • 9

Position the new motor in the dryer cabinet, securing it to the cabinet with bolts. Reattach the electrical wiring connectors to the new motor with the nuts.

    • 10

Place the dryer drum back inside the cabinet and loop the belt around the drum. Run the belt over the idler arm pulley and around the motor pulley, moving the idler arm back to add tension to the belt.

    • 11

Flip the top lid back down over the dryer cabinet and secure it with the bolts underneath the front lip. Plug the two-pronged door switch connector into the back of the upper front panel by hand.

    • 12

Hand the upper front panel over the metal clips at the top of the dryer cabinet in front and secure the panel at the bottom with screws. Attach the lower front panel to the dryer cabinet by pressing it onto the plastic clips on the cabinet by hand.

Fasten the screws underneath the lint filter lid and slide the lint filter back under the lid. Plug the Whirlpool dryer into the power supply.
