How to Make Chapters in an Audiobook in Nero
Nero Ultra Edition versions 7 through 9 include support for burning audio CDs from Audible's proprietary audiobook format. This is convenient, because these files normally require several CDs, and Nero automates the process of burning them all. The only problem is that the process creates discs in which all the audio content is included in a single track. That can be a problem if you're trying to start listening to a chapter that's midway through the track. A workaround exists for this problem, but it is time- and disc-consuming.
Things You'll Need
- Nero Ultra Edition, version 7, 8 or 9
- Audible audiobook file
- CD burner
- Blank CD-R discs

1
Burn the Audible file to multiple discs using Nero Express. Select a music project, and then select "Audiobook CD" from the options that come up. Select the Audible audiobook file you want to burn; click "Next," then "Burn," to begin the process.
-
2
Rip each of the audiobook discs into Nero SoundTrax. Select "Mix CD Project." Drop down the "Insert" menu and select the "Import from Audio CD" option. Select the single track on each audiobook CD to import. This shows you a waveform of the single track.
-
-
3
Right-click on the wave form and select "Edit Audio Clip." This opens the waveform in Nero WaveEditor. You should be able to see gaps in the waveform; these are the chapter breaks.
-
4
Select the portion of the waveform from the beginning to the first chapter break, by clicking and dragging with the mouse.
-
5
Drop-down the "Edit" menu and select "Copy to File." Save the selection to your hard drive as an MP3 file, with the name "Chapter 1."
-
6
Select the next chapter in the waveform and save it as an MP3 file named "Chapter 2." Continue this process for all the chapters on all the disks, until you have created a separate MP3 file for all the chapters. If a disc ends in mid-chapter, give it a name like "Chapter 6 pt 1."
-
7
Burn a new set of discs in Nero Express. Again selecting a Music project, load as many of your chapter MP3 files as will fit on the disc. Then select "Next" and "Burn" to create the disc. Continue this process until you've burned all your chapter MP3 files onto discs.
