How to Clean Sand Paper Rollers

Sandpaper has a rough, abrasive surface.

Sandpaper is an abrasive paper that is rubbed on various surfaces to smooth or remove paint. For large projects a belt sander is used. The belt sander uses conveyor-like rollers to guide a sandpaper belt over the surface of an object. These conveyor-like rollers are referred to as a sandpaper roller. It is important to properly clean sandpaper rollers so the belt sander continues to function properly. The rollers should be cleaned when changing the sandpaper belt.

Things You'll Need

• Compressed air
• Sandpaper cleaner block
• Lint-free cloth

Instructions

1. Following the instructions for the specific brand of belt sander being used, remove the sand paper.

2. Spray compressed air over the roller to remove any debris or dust. Roll the rollers with your fingers to move them, while continuing to spray. Spray the outside and inside of the rollers.

3. Rub a sandpaper cleaner block over any remaining residue. A sandpaper cleaner block feels like an eraser and picks up sawdust and sandpaper residue.

4. Run a lint-free cloth through warm water. Squeeze to remove excess moisture. Wipe the rollers down with the cloth.
