How to Search for a Grant
There are many options for finding available grant money for a multitude of reasons. Whether there is a need for grant money to help pay for college, start a small business or do home repairs, the list is long for available avenues to chose from when searching for grants. There is grant money made available by the federal and state governments and also from local charities and businesses and private endowments. Simply knowing how and where to begin the search is half the chore of finding available grant money.

1
Narrow your grant search to be as specific as possible. There are so many grants available through so many sectors in the U.S. that it requires a narrowing of the search to fit the need of the grant.
-
2
Browse through the available federal grant websites to check for the availability of grants in your area of need. Some grant websites to browse are FederalGrantsWire.com and Grants.gov. Both have a multitude of available grants in different categories.

3
Research profit and non-profit companies that offer grants in the category of your need. Generally a company will advertise any grant opportunities on its website and will indicate the application procedure, instructions and deadline for submission.
-
4
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if you need a grant for higher education. The FAFSA gives grants to help subsidize the cost of college and trade schools (see Resources). Also contact your school's financial aid office to request a list of available grants offered.

5
Search close to home for available grants. The local Chamber of Commerce and county government are just a few of the available avenues to explore for available grants. Other possible opportunities to consider would be your community resource center and Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).
