How to Design Graduation Announcements

How to Design Graduation Announcements thumbnail
Creating your own graduation announcements will save a lot of money.

Ordering graduation announcements from your school or university can be extremely costly. Designing your own invitations will be fun and save some money. You can print out exactly how many you need, and spend the money you save on fun extras like seals and customized stamps. Use a word processing program, or just come up with an idea and take it to a print shop and let them help you put your idea to paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a word processing program to create a new document. You can do vertical or horizontal invitations, so choose which type appeals to you. On the front of the invitation, you can place pictures of the graduate doing school activities, a favorite school picture or just a few memorable snapshots. Write a favorite quote, the school song or something meaningful to the graduate. Include the class year. Feel free to get creative with colors; graduation announcements don't have to be white and boring.

Include details about the graduation ceremony on the inside of the announcement---the time, location and post-graduation celebration information. Also, note an RSVP phone number or e-mail address.

    • 3

Print the announcements out on card stock or a glossy photo type paper. If you want to, you can take one copy of the announcement you made to a print shop, and let them professionally print them on special paper. This will still be cheaper than ordering them.

Place the cards in envelopes, and use seals to close them. Get someone with nice handwriting to write out the addresses, and include an address in return where people who cannot attend the ceremony can send gifts and cards. For fun, get a photo stamp made with the graduate's picture on it, and include that as well.
