How to Retrieve Files Deleted From the Trash Bin

When you delete something in Windows, it doesn't just disappear. Deleted files are sent to the trash bin, more commonly referred to as the Recycle Bin, on your desktop. You then have the option of deleting a file permanently or restoring it. If you accidentally delete something, or change your mind about deleting it, you can restore it without losing any information or functionality.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Recycle Bin on your desktop by double-clicking on it.

    • 2

Find the item you wish to restore and drag and drop it onto your desktop or into another folder. You can also right-click on the item and click "Restore." It will go back to where it was when you originally deleted it.

    • 3

Restore all items in the Recycle Bin at once by clicking on "Edit" on the top bar and selecting "Select All." Then, go to "File" on the top bar again and click "Restore."

Tips & Warnings

  • If an item has been deleted from the Recycle Bin, there is no way to restore it to your computer.
