1
Put on the safety goggles and heavy-duty gloves to protect your eyes from any flying concrete pieces and to protect your hands while using the mallet or chisel.
-
2
Enlarge the broken areas of concrete using the chisel and mallet. Place the chisel head inside of the crack at a 45-degree angle, and begin to tap the chisel handle end with the mallet to turn the crack into a larger hole. The hole needs to be about 6 inches, both deep and wide. The fresh concrete filler will cure and harden much better when it has a larger area to fill.

3
Remove the dust with the wire brush, pull the broken pieces out, and then soak the hole with a light misting of water. Allowing the existing concrete to soak up some water will prevent it from pulling the moisture out of the newly added concrete.
-
4
Make the concrete compound mix in the bucket. Use three parts Portland cement to two parts sand. Stir with the dowel, and add small amounts of water as needed. The finished product should be pasty and not loose.
-
5
Use the putty knife to line the hole with fresh compound, and then fill the hole until it overflows with concrete. You do not need to wait for the lining to dry before filling the hole.
-
6
Scoop the excess concrete off the top of the surface with the trowel's edge. Smooth over the top until the repair is flush with the floor's surface.
-
7
Let the fresh concrete compound harden and cure for 48 hours. The repair will bond to the existing concrete and may not be noticeable, since you smoothed the repair over the surface and blended it in.
