A scratched optical disc will not play correctly.

An Xbox 360 game disc can be damaged just like any other optical disc. Fix a scratched Xbox 360 CD disc by filling in the scratch with a few common supplies found around the house. The procedure is straightforward and can be done in less than 30 minutes. You do not need any special skills or expertise in handling optical discs in order to fix the scratch so that the Xbox 360 game disc can again be used.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a soft towel on a table. Place the Xbox 360 game disc label side down on the soft towel.

    • 2

Apply regular toothpaste--not any that has flavored crystals that could scratch the disc--to the entire disc in a clockwise pattern, starting from the left side next to the center rim and moving clockwise until you reach the outer edge.

    • 3

Place an edge of the lint-free cloth against the toothpaste on the left side next to the center rim. Wipe off the toothpaste with the edge of the lint free cloth moving in a clockwise motion on the disc.

    • 4

Hold the disc by the edges in one hand. Hold the side of the disc that had the toothpaste on it under running tap water in the kitchen sink for two minutes or until fully cleaned off.

    • 5

Place the disc on a drying rack with the label side facing down. Let the disc dry for 24 hours before using it in the Xbox 360 again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Blow off the XBox 360 game disc with compressed air before filling in the scratch.

  • Crystal-flavored toothpaste can cause additional scratching to an optical disc and so should not be used.
