How to Make Lamp Cord Covers
Lamp cord covers are often made of a neutral fabric that matches the room's decor. The cover wraps around any chain and is shirred or bunched for style. It's easy to create decorative covers for lamps or for the tangle of wires at the back of a computer. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the diameter of the electrical plug. For most lamps the plug is rather small, so a simple cloth tube can cover the cord. Add 1 inch to your measurement for seam allowance. Measure the length of the wire and double that measurement for your fabric length.

2
Cut your fabric. Fold the fabric in half and sew a 3/8-inch seam along its length. Turn your fabric right side out.

3
Unplug your lamp and thread the plug through the cloth tube. The cloth will bunch up. Tuck each end to the inside and secure it from the inside with a small safety pin. The pin should reduce the end near the plug so the plug cannot slip back into the tube. Plug in the cord and arrange your cover in a way that pleases you.

Tips & Warnings
Cover suspended fixture lamp wire chains by measuring the diameter of the chain and adding 1/2 inch. Add an additional inch for hems. Sew a 1/4-inch hem down the length of the fabric and attach a 1/4-inch hook and loop. Install by pressing the hook and loop into itself.
