How to Test Home Water Pressure
The average water pressure of residential buildings is normally between 40 and 70 pounds per square inch, or psi. The method for determining your water pressure is easy. In so doing, you will want to measure both static and residual pressure of your home. Static is when you turn on only one faucet and residual is when you have two faucets opened up. A water faucet or hose bibb Attach the pressure gauge to an outside faucet or hose bibb. Make sure the gauge face is where you can read it.

Turn the faucet on all the way.

Take note of where the needle on the gauge is pointing. This is your static water pressure.

Find another faucet or hose bibb and turn it wide open.

Go back to the first faucet with the gauge and note where the needle on the gauge is pointing. This is your residual water pressure.

Tips & Warnings
Water pressure gauges can be purchased at most any hardware stores. Make sure you get one that can be attached to the faucet.
If your water pressure is below 40 psi, there is a possibility that you have a leak in your system and will need a plumber and/or water company representative to investigate. If your water pressure is over 70, contact your water company because high water pressure can rupture household pipes.
